Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

There are several options available for tourists traveling from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and vice versa.

By Boat

A ride on a boat connection between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap takes about 6 hours. The trip connects to Siem Reap via the great Tonle Sap Lake. This can be a great trip giving the traveler the opportunity to view life on the lake, floating houses and working fishermen. The ferries are of variable quality and comfort however, often noisy and crowded. Though generally safe, these ferries have experienced breakdowns, groundings and other difficulties. Travel is best during the wet season when the river level is high. Bus trips are more comfortable and cheaper and as the roads are improving, boat rides to and from Phnom Penh are getting less and less popular.

By Bus

Several busses connect Phnom Penh with Siem Reap. Mekong Express offers daily luxury buses which take about 5½ hours. Capital Tour offers daily minivans which take about 5 hours to get to Siem Reap. Advance bookings for busses are advisable, and can also be sorted out by most travel agents and guesthouses for a US$1-2 fee. Phnom Penh does not have a centralized bus station. Buses from different companies depart from different stations.

By Plane
